The Honorable Phil Harriman, Chairman of Summers
for Congress, explains why he supports
Charlie's bid for the first district Congressional seat.
As
you may have read, I recently accepted the position
of Campaign Chairman for my friend Charlie Summers’
campaign for Congress. As a former Maine Senate
colleague of Charlie’s, I am proud to serve as his
Campaign Chairman, and I look forward to working
vigorously to see that Charlie is our next
Congressman.
Charlie is currently serving our country in Iraq as
a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy. Always
putting his country first, Charlie is in Iraq
working to preserve our safety, and seeing to it
that America emerges victorious in the War on
Terror.
Charlie’s patriotism is clear, and so is his
commitment to Maine. I can think of no one I’d
rather have representing our district in Congress
than Charlie.
Charlie is a true conservative. He believes the
safety of Americans is a top priority, and we
must defeat the terrorist threat not by pulling out
of Iraq as the current Democratic Congress wants to
do, but by staying, fighting, and winning.
Charlie recognizes the seriousness of the
immigration crisis in America, and will take a
leadership role in securing our borders before all
else.
He believes that we must grow the economy and use
that growth in revenues to lower the tax burden.
Most especially, he knows first-hand how important
it is to provide small businesses and everyday
Americans with the freedom to spend their money as
they wish.
Charlie is committed to Maine and America more than
ever because he has watched the Democratic Congress
in action and seen their lack of leadership in
foreign policy, immigration, tax reform, and many
other areas. Charlie is the man to fix these
failures and utilize his experience in making
America an even better place to live and work.
Charlie knows Maine.
He has worked as a State Senator, as State Director
for Senator Olympia Snowe, and as Regional Director
of the Small Business Administration. He knows what
the challenges are confronting Maine, and he will
approach solutions to these challenges with
perspective and optimism.
Charlie also knows Washington.
He has worked for years with the U.S. Congress
through Senator Snowe, and worked on a daily basis
with leaders in Washington, through his position as
the New England Regional Administrator, Small
Business Administration. Shortly after September 11th,
Charlie was recalled by the Navy to the Pentagon to
assist the Department of Defense with anti-terrorism
measures and served for more than seven months.
Charlie brings to the table a valuable combination
of knowing his way around Washington, D.C. yet not
being a man of the establishment. He is an effective
policymaker, and unlike the current Congress, a man
who will get results.
I hope you will join the team and see that Charlie
gets elected in June and November.
