PORTLAND, Maine – Summers for Congress today applauded Governor Baldacci for recognizing the leadership of President Ronald Reagan by proclaiming February 6, 2008 as Ronald Reagan Day.

"Ronald Reagan was a great leader and statesman ," said Ruth Summers. "His resolve in seeking peace through strength brought an end to the Cold War and the collapse of the Soviet Union which furthered the cause of peace and freedom for millions around the world. He strengthened our economy and helped us look confidently toward the future. He truly helped to make America "a shining city upon a hill."

Ronald Wilson Reagan was the 40th President of the United States and served two terms as Governor of California (1967-1975).

Charlie Summers is currently serving in Iraq, as a Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy. In 2004, Summers was the GOP nominee in Maine's First District Congressional race, securing a higher percentage of the vote than any previous challenger to Democratic incumbent Tom Allen. He previously served as the New England Regional Administrator for the U.S. Small Business Administration, State Director for U.S. Senator Olympia J. Snowe (R-Maine), and as a 2-term member of the Maine State Senate representing Saco, Scarborough, Dayton and Old Orchard Beach.
